Statistical Physics of Fracture, Friction and Earthquake
by Hikaru Kawamura, et al.
Publisher: arXiv 2011
Number of pages: 52
Description:
We review the present status of our research and understanding regarding the dynamics and the statistical properties of earthquakes, mainly from a statistical physical viewpoint. Emphasis is put both on the physics of friction and fracture, which provides a 'microscopic' basis of our understanding of an earthquake instability, and on the statistical physical modelling of earthquakes, which provides 'macroscopic' aspects of such phenomena.

Imaging the Earth's Interior
by Jon F. Claerbout - Blackwell Science Inc
Prospecting for oil begins with seismic soundings. The echoes are processed into images that reveal the earth's geological history. This book describes the image-making process, it uses the wave equation directly in the image-making process.

Geo-neutrinos and Earth's interior
by G. Fiorentini, M. Lissia, F. Mantovani - arXiv.org
Geo-neutrinos bring to the surface information from the whole planet, concerning its content of natural radioactive elements. Their detection shed light on the sources of the terrestrial heat flow, on the composition, and on the origins of the Earth.
